We survived the winter thus far and are all looking forward to a wonderful spring and being able to get outside! Please dress your child according to the weather (hats, mittens, if necessary, and sneakers, shoes). We will be going out on days that are 35 degrees and above provided there is no snow or ice. The playground will be damp though, so proper shoes are a must. Don’t forget to label new clothing such as new spring jackets.
Our Valentine’s Day Parties were so much fun! Thank you to everyone who brought in goodies, treats, and gifts. The children loved receiving as well as giving their Valentine’s cards and had a great time playing the games and celebrating with their friends. Also, the children were so happy to share their “kindness hearts” with the class and we are so proud of their helpful and kind deeds during this very special month! We hope the 3 day class enjoys your child’s silhouettes. We hope they will be a nice reminder of Tiny Tots!
March 27th and 28th will be our school pictures! We are finalizing the details and will let you know before.
During March, the three-day class will be doing a bit of “traveling”. They will be visiting Mexico, China, Italy, and finally Ireland! They will be preparing for their travels by making a “suitcase” and a “passport”. They will be sampling many foods from these countries. When signing up for snack, please keep in mind our traveling days and please co-ordinate snacks with a teacher. If any parent would like to come in to the classroom and share an experience pertaining to any country, we would love to have you.
The two-day class will be having a Teddy Bear picnic! Also, we will celebrate rainbow day, and a very special visit from a tiny green leprechaun who loves to make mischief at Tiny Tots around St. Patrick’s Day! And finally, we will be welcoming Spring!!
For the children who are returning to Tiny Tots, September’s tuition is due by April 1st. This is a non-refundable payment to secure your child’s spot for the next school year, as we do have a waiting list in some classes. If your payment is not received by April 15th, your child’s spot will not be secured. This policy will be enforced this year as we have a waiting list. Please plan accordingly. If your child is scheduled for a physical, please don’t forget to ask for an updated medical form and submit it to Tiny Tots, as current physicals are needed for the new school year.
Planning ahead … School Pictures will be on Wed. March 27th and Thurs. March 28th
Last Day of School … May 24th and May 25th.
Summer Camp 3 Day Class only…weeks of May 29th and June 4th.

This has been such a cold winter, the children have had no chance to go outside! They have been very busy using the gym, and with our many theme weeks, they are happy and active! The 3 day class has been having a formal gym day with Melissa Coutreau, once a month. Melissa has really been keeping them active with challenging gross motor activities!
Community Helper Week has been fantastic and a great opportunity for the children to learn about different professions. Thank you to all of the parents who came in to speak with the class! The children were very excited each day to see what we were doing next. The classroom itself gave them a chance to “try out” different professions in imaginary play. It was a very fun filled week!
Our annual Valentine’s Day parties will be on February 13th and 14th. All children can bring Valentine Cards to school for their friends on those days. Please have your child sign the back of the cards but do not put any names on the front envelopes. This will allow the children to pass out their cards on their own quickly and simple. It is best if you send the cards in to school in a zip lock bag marked with your child’s name on the front.
2-DAY: 16 children 3-DAY: 20 children Multi Age: 8 children (M/W and T/TH)
There will be a sign-up sheet on the doors across from the classroom with a list of items we need for our party. Please only one person’s name for each line to avoid too many treats.
Also, during the month of February, the children can bring in Kindness Hearts. These are hearts that we provide so when your child does a nice deed or act of kindness (i.e.: help clean up, help with younger siblings, show a sign of affection), you can write it down on a heart and the children can bring them into school to share with their classmates. This is a great way to encourage your child to be especially nice during this month of love and get a pat on the back as well!
Parents in the 3-day class keep a watch out for a special letter from your child that will be arriving shortly before Valentine’s Day. We will be learning our addresses and phone numbers this month too! Please let a teacher know which phone # is best to learn.
PAJAMA DAY is always a fun day! Please send your children in their cozy pajamas on Feb 26th and 27th. Lots of fun activities are planned for this special day!
REGISTRATION for next year is filling up fast! Our 3 DAY CLASS has two openings. If you decide to send your child to a different school next year, please let us know as soon as possible. Tuition for September is due in April to secure your child’s spot for the fall. We will be reminding you this year.
School vacation week is February 19th to February 23rd.

We couldn’t be more proud of the great performances by the children at our Holiday Shows. The children were so excited to show everyone how well they practiced and learned all of the songs! Also, thank you for all of the cards, gifts and goodies for our party. We greatly appreciate everything!
Our website features our monthly newsletter and calendars. Google eastontinytotspreschool.com for our latest news and calendar events!
The month of January is filled with many fun themes. One special theme is Animals in Winter featuring the classic books by Jan Brett, “The Hat” and “The Mitten”. The children will also be learning about winter animals including all about penguins and hibernation. 3 Day class, watch for Perky the Penguin to visit you soon! Perky will be going home with each student in the big class during the months of January and February (everyone will surely get a turn). The 3 Day class will also be doing Gym/Show ‘n Tell as well, so wear your sneakers to school on those days. On gym day we have a visit from Melissa Coutreau, a gym and dance instructor in Raynham! The children loved gym day last month, learning to skip, hop, run, jump, etc. The 2-day class will be doing fun winter activities as well, including white day, snow days and many winter themes.
We will also be learning about Community Helpers this month! If you would like to come in to speak with the class about your profession, please let us know as soon as possible so we can plan around it. We are welcoming all professions, including Nurse, Doctor, Police, Construction, Baker, Artist, or any other profession! It will be fantastic for the children to learn about these professions first hand! We hope you will participate.
It is hard to believe that it is 2018! Registration for September is filling up quickly. We still have openings in our classes but very limited in our 3 day Pre-K class. Stop by the office to register any time. Open registration begins January 2nd. Tell your friends!!
We will be going outside all winter, weather permitting, and as long as there is no ice in our playground and it is above 36 degrees. So bundle up with hats, mittens, warm coats, and boots or warm shoes. We will continue to use our gym as well so sneakers are best for every day wear. Don’t forget to label all jackets!!
Please make sure that your child’s physical is up to date and submitted. The physicals are good for one year from the date of their last exam.
Please follow the policy for NO SCHOOL during inclement weather which was given out at Open House. We follow the Easton Public Schools for cancellations. If there is a delay of school in the morning, we will also have the same delay (ie: 1 hr. delays come at 10:00, etc.) In the event that there is no morning kindergarten, then there is NO morning (11:30) class and school will begin at 11:30 for children staying until 1:00 or 2:30. The months are just passing by so quickly. It’s hard to believe we are in the month of December, with so much to do! Our Holiday Parties will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 20th and Thursday, Dec. 21st. The children will be having a Holiday Show on these days as well. The 3-day class’ short program will be in the Sanctuary upstairs, beginning promptly at 9:15 AM on Wednesday. The two-day class and multi-day class will have their program in our sanctuary, promptly at 9:15 AM on Thursday. (multi class please check with Mrs. Donovan on details). All classes will end at 11:30/1:00 on these days. All are welcome to join us for this very special occasion! Details and invitations will follow. School will resume on Jan. 2nd after our winter break.
The children have drawn names of a classmate to exchange a gift with during the party. Please limit your spending to $5.00 to $8.00 and bring it to school on the morning of our party. Make sure it is wrapped with the recipient’s name on the front. We will also be continuing our food drive for the Easton Food Pantry throughout December.
Sign-up sheets for the Holiday Party will be posted in the hallway. If you have a special custom or tradition that you would like to share with the children, please speak to one of the teachers about coming into the classroom. The 3 day class is discussing Holidays Around the World, so this will tie in nicely.
A progress report will be coming home with December’s newsletter. This is not a “report card” but simply a guideline in your child’s development thus far in the school year. If you have any questions or would like a conference, let a teacher know and an appointment can be made. Continue to check your calendars to keep up with our themes. Also, the newsletters are posted on our website under News!
Registration forms for next September 2018 are enclosed. This is for current students and siblings only. You need to register your child each year in order to secure a spot. The classes fill up very quickly so we suggest if you are planning on having your child attend next year, return the form as soon as possible with a $75 non-refundable registration fee. * Reg. fees will not be cashed until after the Holidays. Open registration begins January 2nd for children who do not attend Tiny Tots.
We wish you all a joyous Holiday Season and may 2018 bring you good health, special family moments, and much happiness!

Thank you all for coming to our Get Acquainted Breakfast and for providing such healthy fruit for our morning. We hope you all enjoyed it and got to meet your child’s friends and families. It was a really fun morning!!
The children looked so precious in their costumes! Thank you to all the parents who provided the delicious treats, goody bags, and pumpkins for our party! Some of our learning this month included: what’s inside a pumpkin, how pumpkins grow, how to make a jack-o-lantern, spider facts, etc. We sharpened our Math skills by graphing pumpkin seeds, counting and number recognition using leaves, pumpkins and spiders, magic writing, matching games, and the favorite, mystery box.
Fall will be a very busy time at Tiny Tots as well! We will begin with our Nature Walk and signs of Fall. Activities will include sorting and categorizing leaves, fall songs, music and movement (Bear Hunt) and arts and crafts using different media, and special books, all emphasizing Fall changes. The older class will be discussing Harvesting, farming, and nocturnal animals. They will also be doing a little acting as well. The younger class will be discussing fall changes, music, color: yellow and shape: triangle. We will all be preparing for Thanksgiving and will be cooking a bit along with our themes. Every Thanksgiving we have a sharing fruit cup where each child brings in one piece of fruit to share with the class, a great tradition!
The children will be drawing names of a classmate to exchange a gift with during our Holiday Party in December. The gift should cost from $5 to $8 and be brought to school on the day of the party, wrapped, with the recipient’s name on it. Further information will follow regarding our Holiday Show.
Holiday Parties and Show: Dec. 20th and 21st . School will end at 1:00 those days. Details to follow. School will resume on Jan 2nd after our winter break.
Don’t forget to take advantage of our Extended-day program (MWF, 1pm class only) and the Lunch Bunch program (T/TH 11:30 class only). Extended Day and Lunch Bunch is $10 per stay.
Registration for children and their siblings, for the next school year, will begin on December 1st. You must register your child each year to reserve a spot for September. A $75.00 registration fee is required, (we will hold the deposit until after the holidays). The registration fee will secure that your child is registered for the upcoming school year. On January 2nd, open registration will begin for the public. Please pass the word on to your friends!
Please continue to label all outerwear as it is easier for us to help your child identify new clothing. The three day class is encouraged to be able to put on their own jackets and hats, as well as learning how to zipper and button to promote independence and also is an important step in getting ready for kindergarten. Also, be sure to bundle-up as we will continue to go out every day, weather permitting.

It has been a fantastic start to the school year!! The children are adjusting so well to our classrooms, and our daily routines are under way. We are looking forward to a fun month of October, filled with “Transportation Week”, Halloween festivities and Parties, and our Pancake Family Breakfast! Our breakfasts are Wednesday, October 4th and Thursday, October 5th at 8:30. Details went home last week.
Lunch time is going so well also. Thank you all for cooperating with our “NO peanut or tree nut” policy. This is the first year in many that we do not have a peanut allergy! Hopefully the trend is going in the right direction. During lunch, we do our best to encourage the children to eat their healthy lunch first and then the treat if provided. An ideal lunch would be three healthy choices, as too many choices can be confusing. Please include a drink in your child’s lunchbox.
Thank you also for signing up for snack. We have had some wonderful snacks! Please keep in mind healthy eating is our goal! Fruit, cheese, veggies, yogurt, crackers are always welcome!
We are planning to go outside every day, weather permitting, so please dress accordingly. Also, please be sure to mark all clothing with permanent marker so that we can help them find their jackets. We are encouraging the older children to put on, zip and button their own jackets, as this promotes independence. We will keep practicing throughout the school year. Sneakers are best
for outdoor play and gym.
The dates for the Halloween Parties are Monday, October 30th and Tuesday, October 31st . A sign up sheet for party snacks will be posted on the door in the hallway. Please only sign up in the spaces provided to avoid snack overload. On the day of the party, the children will wear their costumes to school and we will have a short parade at 9:15. Coffee will be provided for parents while waiting for the parade. After our parade, please remove your child’s costume and take it home for safekeeping.
Please keep your calendars handy so that you can keep informed of our daily activities and theme weeks! We are also in the process of preparing a group email in order to email our schedules and class information as well. Please let us know if you do not want to receive emails from Tiny Tots. Also, there will be updates on Facebook periodically as well.
Tuition is due on the first of the month. A mailbox is located in the coat area for easy drop off.

Welcome to Tiny Tots! We hope you all had a fantastic summer! We have many fun activities and themes planned for our school year. We are looking forward to a busy and exciting year! Welcome back old friends and families! We can’t wait to get to know all our new friends and families! Let’s get started!!
Attached is the monthly calendar so that you are aware of our activities ahead of time. Often there will be a theme day or week, so you may want to keep your calendar handy. The newsletter is also posted on our website eastontinytots.com. To begin, we will be getting to know each other and get acquainted with many fun activities. The three-day class will be discussing feelings, friendships, school rules, and getting reacquainted! The two-day classes will be getting to know each other with some fun activities and games.
We will all be celebrating apple week as we approach fall. Activities will include apple graphing, apple stamping, apple tasting and apple cooking as well as many related stories. Children can bring in one apple of any kind to share with the class, for our taste test. The three-day class will be starting off the “letter of the week” with the letter “A”!
We will be going out daily, weather permitting. We would greatly appreciate it if you could label all outerwear with your child’s name inside. This will allow us to help each child identify his or her jacket or sweatshirt when it is time to go out. This is very helpful with the amount of children we have to get ready. Also, sneakers are best for outdoor play as we are running on sand.
Snack sign-up sheets are posted across from our classroom door if you are interested in sending in snack for the class. Your child will help pass out the snack on that day. Please provide for the entire class.
Just an important reminder: NO peanuts, peanut butter, tree nuts, or mixed nuts allowed for snack or lunch. Allergies are still being discovered, so we are a nut free school as a precaution. Also, we do have peanut and tree nut allergies this year, so extra caution must be taken. Healthy snacks such as fruit, cheese, crackers, veggies, yogurt, fresh muffins and breads, etc. are encouraged.
*****It is required that you sign your child in and out every day. There is a sing in sheet on the classroom door.
Payments are due the first week of each month. Please remember to put your child’s name and the month that the payment is intended for on each check. This will assure that your account will be properly credited. Place your payment in the mailbox by the coats.
Please send in your child’s updated medical form as soon as possible. This is a requirement by the state and is necessary for us to have in your child’s file. All medical forms must be updated yearly.
Planning ahead: Get Acquainted Pancake Breakfast is planned for October 4th & 5th, details to follow.
Keep updated on Facebook at Joan Sullivan, Tiny Tots Preschool. We will not post pictures of your child but may post news and information. We are looking forward to a FANTASTIC YEAR!
Tiny Tots is so lucky to have such amazing families that are sharing your little ones with us. We will do everything to make this a fun-filled and nurturing learning experience for your child. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let us know, either by phone 508-238-9131, email ([email protected], or in person.

A Very Scary Headline About Kindergarteners
The Washington Post (a synopsis)
Research shows that children learn best when they have hands-on learning experiences, engage in structured play, experience facts within meaningful contexts, invent their own problems to explore and solve, and share their own solutions. The current emphasis on standards and testing has led many schools to over-focus on assessment at the expense of meeting children’s developmental needs and teaching meaningful content. Play and activity-based learning have been disappearing from many early childhood classrooms, and – along with them – children’s natural motivation and love of learning.
What could be done to address this problem?
1. Promote programs that are based on current research on how young children learn best.
2. Promote meaningful, hands-on learning experiences in classrooms for young children.
3. Work to ensure that teachers provide well-thought out educational experiences that demonstrate knowledge and respect for each child.
4. Work to ensure that children have literacy experiences that include storytelling, quality children’s literature, and acting out stories rather than activities that isolate and drill discrete skills.
5. Help teachers skillfully build curriculum from what children can do and understand instead of direct teaching skills that are disconnected from children’s understanding.
6. Encourage schools to respect the language and culture of children and their families, to encourage families to take ownership and to make sure that their history and experiences are included and valued.
7. Encourage schools to design schedules that provide ample time for families and school personnel to meet and work together.
8. Work to ensure that teachers who have specialized training in early childhood education are placed in classrooms for young children.
What family members can do at home
1. Provide young children with space and time to play at home and in the neighborhood.
2. Read good quality children’s books and limit screen time.
3. Resist reinforcing the school’s agenda – drilling for skills – and replace it with opportunities for meaningful learning
This follows our philosophy at Tiny Tots Preschool. As we build our curriculum, we always plan activity-based learning! Children learn best when they are free to explore their environment, problem solve, use hands on activities, and of course, plenty of language and literature. Also, although it may just look like "play", it is a vital part of children's early childhood development and is an essential basis for all learning, including life skills and social development. We never estimate the power of play!

Hopefully we have been through the coldest part of the winter! “The Week at the Beach gave us a glimmer of what is coming. The children really used their imaginations while playing in the sand, fishing in the “ocean”, beach volleyball, looking for seashells, board games, and many more fun activities.
February is sure to be another exciting month with our annual Valentine’s Day parties on February 13th and 14th. All children can bring Valentine Cards to school for their friends. Please have your child sign the back of the cards but do not put any names on the front envelopes. This will allow the children to pass out their Valentine cards on their own. It is best if you send the cards in to school in a bag marked with your child’s name on the front.
2-DAY AM: 12 children
3-DAY AM: 22 children / 3-DAY PM: 4 children (26 children total)
There will be a sign up sheet on the doors across the hall from the classroom with a list of items we need for our party. Please only one person’s name for each line.
This is a great way to encourage your children to be especially nice during this month of love!!
Parents in the 3-day class keep a watch out for a special letter from your child that will be arriving shortly before Valentine’s Day. We will be learning our addresses this month too!
We have had several illnesses in our classes this year. The state has mandated that all children must wash their hands when arriving at school, as well as departing. This is to help avoid the spread of colds and flu during these winter months. We are asking that parents help the children into the bathroom in the morning.
REGISTRATION for next year is filling up fast! You must register your child each new school year. Please sign up so that you don’t miss out!! Remind your friends and family that we are now enrolling for the Fall. We are having an Open House on February 6th from 9:30-11:00.
